"We played out a lot and it is possible that every So Much Face live show had been recorded, at least to about the time recording of Born On The Cusp was underway. Our indestructible live setup for this era used only three channels of audio- two omni AA-battery condenser mics for the band, a nice clean vocal send from the PA, all mixed thru a little no pan-pots Radio Shack mixer to a stereo cassette deck found in the garbage. Done. The mixing was done visually with the tape deck meters since it was impossible to hear over the band while we were onstage playing. 'Uncle Luke' was one of many examples recorded this way, though that one was done live in a rehearsal studio.
The one and only time trying a CD recorder with us live on stage failed due to the vibration skipping the writer to the end of the disc, so it was back to tape.
Loose Ends and Five Live Ones were distilled and released, and additional cuts selected and later transferred by Tom or Christian for publication online." -Greg Perman
